Angelfire

I had worked on this one for most of a day but it was a cloudy day that day, no good for photographs. The next day, the all too familiar cycle began again...a dramatic warm up was on the way. All ice would be melted by tomorrow. This piece began to warm up fast in the blazing heat of the day but I needed to wait for the sun to cycle around until it was backlit for the best shots...the hours dragged by waiting for the moment. It was over 40 degrees all day and several bits fell off, but enough remained by sunset time to get a few good shots. However, the sculpture was so weakened and fragile that just a few minutes after taking this image, the left "wing" fell off which caused a cascade effect and most of the sculpture just crashed in a glittering mass of crystal fragments..all gone.
