Nearly There!

What delights and enchantments lie hidden on the other side of this door? Brief flashes of jewel-like colours sparkling in the dappled sunlight are just visible as we are allowed a peek through the opening door. There must be a Secret Faerie Garden on the other side!

But we cannot go in just yet... a rain storm is coming and we must dash to hide under a welcoming bank of Coltsfoot leaves. Perhaps, in a day or two, after the rains pass, we'll be granted access. Until then, we wait out the rains, nibble on some chocolate and dream about Faerie Gardens.

Secret Faerie Door pt 2

As we move a wee bit closer to the secret Faerie door, we notice something interesting... there is a wee window in the door enticing us to come closer still!

Secret Faerie Door

In a forest glade, along a moss-covered granite cliff, tucked underneath a sheltering fern plant, sunlight splashed on a tiny door at the end of an ancient water-carved grotto. What wonders might lie behind this miniature portal???

Join me as we step into this enchanted glen in the next few days.

In addition I want to let you know that soon, this blog will undergo a rather radical visual make-over . All of this is in preparation for the launch of my website, which is nearly ready. (YAY!!) As most websites are, it is and always will be a work in progress, but I hope my fans will enjoy each step along the way. It seemed the right time to make some changes here as well... so, don't be surprised if things start shape-shifting and morphing around here.... it's just another wave of creative expression washing over our little world and re-arranging our perceptions. Hopefully for the better !!

Grounded

Seeds on a cultivated Japanese maple tree caught my attention in town yesterday. So many subtle shades of pink and green. The leaves on the same tree were also rich and regal going from deep burgundy to a golden olive. The desire to work with them overcame my resistance to picking vegetation in public places.

I found the perfect spot to work in terms of colour and lack of wind... but this piece was very difficult to make. Every little tuft of the moss underneath diverted the winged seeds this way and that... still, it was such fun to try and get some sense of order out of them. They WANT to create linear patterns. It was hard to coax them into a circular formation, but once they got going, everyone fell into the rhythm and things began to take shape.

Of course the sun disappeared just before I finished, hence the rather subdued colours... but they are nice enough. I left the sculpture out overnight. I'll see what remains tomorrow... perhaps there will be some warmer light. I'll keep you posted !

Hazel Leaf house revisited

With all the heavy lifting going on in the products development part of my working days it seems the actual fun of getting out and making Faerie houses has been sorely missing from my days this summer. But for us here in the Adirondacks, we've had a long period of drying out and the woods were looking a bit parched when I went out last week on a scouting run.

We've just had a bit of rain and more is expected this week. Perhaps it will give the mosses a chance to freshen up... like in years past when the abundant rains produced abundant moss, such as in this photo.

I've had to cut back to posting here to just once a week or so. Too many irons in the various fires at the moment... but as always, I will post here first with any new developments and announcements. I'm going to leave the print sale going for a wee bit longer as a few customers are still trying to decide which images to get, but it will be coming down by August 10th.

I may dig through my archives and share some images from summers past... there are so many images I've not yet shared, it's becoming a bit difficult to keep track ! Stay tuned ! :-)
